The GPS works so well for cars, ships and even planes, but have you ever wondered how the Sci-Fi space ships find their way in galaxy?? Yeah GPS, help them too, not the Global Positioning System but the Galactic Positioning System which is now under development. NASA’s new autonomous X-ray navigation system could provide deep-space missions with a cosmic version of GPS. Instead of satellite signals, they use X rays from pulsars. Pulsars are a type of dead star having enormous magnetic fields, whose rotation produces X-ray signals with an highly exact rhythm. Pulsars are called “cosmic lighthouses” because their rapid pulse of radio emission is so predictable, that it can be used as a simple straightforward method of Navigation. The system works by combining pulsar pulse data from a reference location such as Earth allowing spaceships to determine their location in space to an accuracy of 3 miles. A rare celestial treat will color the skies on January 31,2018, when a Blue Moon, a total lunar eclipse and a super moon all rolled into one. NASA has even dubbed the event a “Super Blue Blood Moon,” as it will occur near when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, a so-called “super moon.” There hasn’t been a triple lineup like this since 1982 and the next won’t occur until 2037.
The first event is a total lunar eclipse that happens on the morning of Jan. 31. This eclipse will be special! The moon will be both “super” and “blue,” and if skies are clear, sky watchers in North America will be able to see all or part of the eclipse.

NASA scientists have been unable to create the smallest satellite ever until now.. Indians once again made history by designing and building world’s smallest and lightest satellite on behalf of ‘Space Kidz India’, a Research Organization based on Chennai for children. Kalamsat is the brainchild of Rifath Sharook, an 18-year-old boy, from Tamil Nadu’s Pallapatti town, India. Others on the team include Tanishq Dwivedi (flight engineer), Vinay S Bhardwaj (design engineer), Yagna Sai (lead technician), Mohammed Abdul Kashif (lead engineer) and Gobi Nath (biologist). For the past four years, these young minds have been working on rocket and space technology under the mentorship of Chennai-based Srimathy Kesan, the founder and chief executive officer of Space Kidz India.
India’s first unmanned flight to the moon Chandrayaan-1, was launched on 22, 2008 from Sriharikota. It was supposed to orbit the moon for two years. The mission went good for about 312 days before the scientists lost all kind of contact in August 2009. The mission had been declared over after scientists tried their best but failed to find any traces of the satellite. But here is the good or I may say the best.. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched the PSLV-37 rocket which put in to orbit a record 104 satellites from seven countries.This was ISRO’s first space mission for the year 2017, and the most complicated mission it has ever carried out. The mission is significant for the country as it enabled ISRO to test the capabilities for multiple launches of small satellites by its PSLV, which has a payload capacity of more than 1,500 kilos.

India is all set to rule the space… Heard right?? With its mega-launch program on February 15, India will create history by launching a record 104 satellites, including 101 foreign ones, into the polar sun-synchronous orbit(SSO), about 500 km above the earth. The launch is expected to be a world record when it comes to the number of satellites put into orbit by a launch vehicle in a single mission, surpassing the 37 satellites launch record set by a Russian rocket on June 19, 2014. If you ever wished for weightlessness like astronauts, here is an easy way to feel it… Get into a Zero Gravity Plane. Zero Gravity Planes performs parabolic arcs to create a weightless environment allowing you to float, flip and soar as if you were in space. Parabolic flight or zero gravity flight is an aerobatic maneuver performed by an airplane that enables brief (15-25 sec) periods of near-zero-gravity. Astronauts feel weightless because their space shuttle is in a state of continuous free fall to the earth. If an astronaut on the space station drops a pen, it doesn’t look like it’s falling. That’s because they’re all falling together: the pen, the astronaut and the station. But they’re not falling towards Earth, they’re falling around it. Because they’re all falling at the same rate, objects inside of the station appear to float in a state we call “zero gravity” (0g), or more accurately microgravity (1×10-6g). Objects in a state of free fall are said to be weightless. The object’s mass is the same, but it would mark “0” on a scale. Eventhough your mass stays the same, weight varies depending on whether you are on Earth, the moon or in orbit. Gravitational force is a measurement of the acceleration due to gravity that causes weight. After a five year journey from Earth, Juno – NASA’s solar-powered spacecraft safely entered Jupiter’s orbit early Tuesday. Juno was launched on 5 August 2011,from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida and the probe has travelled a total distance of 1,740 million miles (2,800 million kilometres) to reach the gaseous planet.
